Cake recipe

Ingredients:

4 eggs 200g margarine 200g self raising flour 200g caster sugar 2 tsp chocolate orange cocoa powder (or just plain cocoa if you prefer) Orange marmalade (for filling) 100-120g orange chocolate (for topping)

Buttercream filling 90g margarine 45g of icing sugar (add more to suit your preferred consistency)

Equipment:

2 18cm round baking tins

Instructions:

Heat the oven to 180 degrees.

Mix the sugar, margarine and eggs together.

Sift in the flour and cocoa powder.

Mix well and seperate evenly into the 2 baking tins, bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until cooked properly (clean skewer).

When the cakes have cooled on a wire rack mix the buttercream mixture.

Spread a layer of marmalade on the top of one of the sponges and then add a layer of buttercream on top of this, sandwich the 2 cakes together.

Melt the chocolate using your preferred method and pour over the top, allow to drizzle down the sides and leave to cool.

Cake recipe


6oz Margarine

6oz Caster sugar

6oz Self raising flour

3 eggs

3 tablespoons of cocoa powder

3 tablespoons of hot water

Large bar of milk chocolate

1 packet of dream topping


Cream butter and sugar in a bowl.


Mix the cocoa powder with the hot water to make a liquid and allow to cool.


Once the mixture is cool add it to the butter and sugar then add the eggs and flour, mix together.


Heat the oven to 180 degrees and pour the mixture into 2 8 inch circular tins.


Bake in the oven for 20-25 mins and allow to cool.


When cooled mix together a packet of Birds Dream topping with around 100ml of milk and whisk until it is thick and forms peaks.


Melt around 12 squares of the milk chocolate until it is spreadable.


Sandwich the dream topping inbetween the sponges and spread the chocolate on the top, use a fork to make a pattern in the melted chocolate if desired.

Ingredients:
175g digestive biscuits
90g margarine
30g sugar
60g golden syrup
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
Optional:
nuts and glace cherries
Topping:
30g margarine
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
115g icing sugar
- Crush the biscuits using a plastic bag and a rolling pin or if you are better equipped then me a food processor.
- Melt the margarine, sugar and golden syrup in a pan on a low hea, add the cocoa powder and biscuit crumbs
- Put the mixture into a cake tin, I use an 18cm one, and leave to cool down in the fridge
- When the cake is cool make the topping by melting 30g margarine in a pan on a low heat, add the cocoa powder and icing sugar and stir well. Spread over the cool cake mixture and return to the fridge until it is set.
